On-line resources allocation for ATM networks with rerouting

چکیده
We have developed an application for France Telecom R&D, which takes place in an ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network administration context. The problem consists in planning demands of connection over a period of one year. A new demand is accepted if both bandwidth requirements and quality of service are satisfied. The acceptance or the reject of a demand must be decided within at most one minute. First, we look for a route satisfying the demand. In case of failure, we try to reroute some already accepted connections in order to satisfy the new demand. Rerouting has been modeled as a Valued Constraint Satisfaction Problem (VCSP) and solved by VNS/LDS+CP, a hybrid method specifically dedicated to solve VCSPs in anytime contexts. Experiments show that our rerouting enables to plan an average of % of demands that are rejected otherwise.

Design of an ATM switch for handoff support
In a wireless ATM system, a network must provide seamless services to mobile users. To support this, mobility function should be added to existing ATM networks. Through a handoff operation, a mobile user can receive a service from the network without disconnecting the communication. A handoff results in connection path rerouting during an active connection. To avoid cell loss during a handoff, ...
متن کاملAn Enhanced Hybrid Rerouting Scheme for Handoff in Wireless ATM Networks
For handoff in wireless ATM networks, a call might be rerouted because ATM basically provides connection-oriented service. We propose an enhanced hybrid rerouting scheme (EHRS) for handoff in wireless ATM networks, which combines the concepts of multicast rerouting, anchor rerouting, path extension and dynamic rerouting methods to effectively reduce handoff call dropping ratio, new call blockin...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis on Path Rerouting Algorithms for Handoff Control in Mobile ATM Networks
This paper studies mobile-generated traffic distributions in mobile ATM networks and evaluates the performance of path rerouting algorithms for handoff control. In mobile ATM networks, user mobility and handoff path rerouting may produce extra traffic load over network links, requiring larger network capacity to support the same QoS. In this paper, we propose a flow model for mobile ATM network...
متن کاملOn the Impact of Lightpath Rerouting on Connection Provisioning with Transmission Impairments in WDM All-Optical Networks
In transparent optical networks, signals can propagate over long distances without electrical regeneration, causing physical layer impairments to accumulate and make lightpaths’ Quality of Transmission (QoT) become potentially unacceptable. Depending on the channel load and transmission distance some paths cannot be set up fully transparently because the transmission quality requirements (i.e. ...
